    01Who this notice is for

    This notice applies when you visit lettermysteries.com, request the free three-day mystery, join the Alderwick launch list, buy or receive The Last Train to Alderwick, create a managed account, use the private Case Room, or contact Letter Mysteries for support.

    Letter Mysteries is the public and trading name used for this service. The current postal contact is 25 Grove Court, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, S80 1NY. For privacy or support questions, email hello@lettermysteries.com.

    In this notice, “Letter Mysteries”, “we”, and “us” mean the service operated under that public name.

    02Information we collect

    We collect the information needed for the specific part of the service you choose to use. This can include:

    • Trial and waitlist signups: your name, email address, signup choice, consent or unsubscribe preference, and the date of the request.
    • Personal purchases: the checkout email, selected route, chosen Month 1 start date, order details, payment status, and account or membership information connected to the purchase.
    • Gift purchases: the buyer’s checkout details, then the recipient’s name and email, sender name, and any optional gift message supplied after payment.
    • Managed accounts: the identity and email used for sign-in, account status, membership status, and the access information needed to show the right Case Room.
    • Case Room use: monthly releases opened, saved progress, notes or other information you choose to enter, and requests you make to support.
    • Support: the content of messages and any order or account information you choose to include so we can answer you.

    Payment card details are entered in Stripe Checkout. Letter Mysteries does not ask you to send full card numbers by email.

    03How we use information

    We use information for specific service and record-keeping purposes:

    • to send the trial instalments, launch-list notices, and other emails you request or consent to receive;
    • to take and confirm payment, record the selected route, and apply the six-payment limit to the personal monthly experience;
    • to create or connect a managed account, manage a membership, deliver monthly Case Room access, and protect later material until its scheduled date;
    • to prepare a gift handoff, send the recipient invitation, check the invited account, and connect a claimed gift;
    • to answer support questions, investigate delivery or access problems, maintain the service, and protect it from misuse; and
    • to keep accounting, security, and other records where a legal or operational reason requires us to do so.

    We do not use the current trial, waitlist, or Case Room information to build an advertising profile.

    04Payments, email, and service providers

    Stripe processes the payment checkout and provides payment confirmation. Stripe may receive the information needed to complete the transaction under its own privacy terms. Card payment details are handled in Stripe Checkout rather than stored as full card numbers by Letter Mysteries.

    We also rely on service providers to host the site, manage accounts and stored case information, and deliver service emails. Those providers receive the information needed for their role, such as an email address for a requested message or an order status for access control.

    We may disclose information to professional advisers, payment or delivery services, or public authorities when this is needed to provide the service, protect people and systems, resolve a dispute, or comply with law. We do not sell or rent personal information.

    05Cookies and similar technologies

    The site currently uses an essential preference cookie to remember a functional preference. It supports the requested experience and is not used to follow you around the web.

    There are currently no Google Analytics cookies, advertising cookies, Meta Pixel cookies, or other non-essential advertising or analytics tracking on the site. We do not sell information collected through cookies. If that changes, this notice will be updated and any consent required for non-essential tracking will be requested before it is used.

    06Retention and security

    We keep information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected. Trial and waitlist contact records are retained while they are relevant to the requested updates, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them, subject to records we must keep. Purchase and payment records may be retained for accounting, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and legal obligations.

    Managed account and Case Room information is kept while access and support are needed, then reviewed for deletion or anonymisation. Limited copies can remain in secure backups for a short period while those backups are replaced.

    We use access controls and reputable service providers to protect information. No online service can guarantee that transmission or storage will always be risk-free, so please contact us promptly if you believe an account or invitation has been misused.

    07Your rights and choices

    You can contact us to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, correction of inaccurate details, deletion where we no longer need the information, or a review of how it is used. Depending on the law that applies to you, you may also be able to ask us to restrict processing, object to a particular use, or receive information in a portable format.

    You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in the message or by emailing us. Service messages about a purchase, account, gift invitation, access, or support request may still be necessary after marketing consent is withdrawn.

    To make a request, email hello@lettermysteries.com from the address connected to the request where possible. We may ask for enough information to confirm which record belongs to you. You may also complain to the data protection regulator that covers your location.
